Vyāghra–Gomāyu Saṃvāda (व्याघ्रगोमायु संवाद) — Testing Character Beneath Appearances
शून्यात् तच्च गृहान्मांसं यद्यप्यपहतं तव । नेच्छते दीयमानं च साधु तावद् विमृश्यताम्
śūnyāt tac ca gṛhān māṁsaṁ yady apy apahṛtaṁ tava | necchate dīyamānaṁ ca sādhu tāvad vimṛśyatām ||
毗湿摩说道:“纵然你的空屋中确有肉被盗走,仍有另一事实:有一人即使被奉上,也拒不受肉。因此,在下定论之前,先当细细思量这两点。”
भीष्म उवाच
Do not judge hastily on a single sign of wrongdoing; weigh all relevant facts and motives. Ethical discernment (dharma) requires careful reflection before blame or punishment.
Bhīṣma points out two seemingly conflicting observations—meat is missing from an empty house, yet someone refuses meat even when offered—and urges a careful inquiry that considers both circumstances before deciding what truly happened.
