Jaitrya-nimitta: Signs of Prospective Victory and the Priority of Conciliation (जयलक्षण-निमित्त तथा सान्त्व-प्रधान नीति)
शुश्रूषवश्चानभिमानिन श्च परस्पर सौहृदमास्थिताश्न । येषां योधा: शौचमनुषिता श्व जयस्यैतद् भाविनो रूपमाहु:
bhīṣma uvāca | śuśrūṣavaś cānabhimāninaś ca paraspara-sauhṛdam āsthitāś ca | yeṣāṃ yodhāḥ śaucam anuṣṭhitāś ca jayasyaitad bhāvino rūpam āhuḥ ||
毗湿摩说道:若诸战士乐于奉事其主,离于傲慢,彼此守持善意,并以清净行持自律——此即被称为将至胜利之吉祥征兆。
भीष्म उवाच
Victory is not merely a matter of weapons or numbers; it is foretold by the moral quality of the fighters—service-mindedness, humility, mutual goodwill, and disciplined purity. Ethical cohesion and character are presented as strategic strength.
In the Shanti Parva’s instruction on governance and conduct, Bhishma advises about the qualities that indicate success in a ruler’s forces. He lists the virtues seen among warriors as auspicious omens of an impending victory.
