Bhīma’s Rebuttal of Yudhiṣṭhira’s Renunciatory Inclination
अथ चेदात्मभाग्येषु नान्येषां सिद्धिमश्रुते । तस्मात् कर्मव कर्तव्यं नास्ति सिद्धिरकर्मण:
atha ced ātmabhāgyeṣu nānyeṣāṁ siddhim aśrute | tasmāt karmaiva kartavyaṁ nāsti siddhir akarmaṇaḥ ||
毗摩说道:“若在各自所分得的命分之中,从未听闻成就来自他人的作为,那么人就必须为自己而行。因为不行动的人,永无所得。”
भीम उवाच
Success is not to be expected through others’ actions; therefore one must perform one’s own duty and effort. Inaction yields no accomplishment.
In the Shanti Parva’s ethical discussions, Bhima speaks to emphasize the necessity of personal action and responsibility, arguing against reliance on others or on passive waiting for fate.
