True nīti and dharma begin with humility: serving elders and listening to beneficial counsel. When one ignores wise instruction, greed (lobha) and craving (tṛṣṇā) become dominant forces that enslave judgment and lead to unethical choices.
Vāyudeva delivers a sharp admonition to the addressed person, accusing them of neglecting elders and disregarding authoritative teachings on ethics and governance (associated with Bṛhaspati and Śukra). He explains the person’s present downfall as the result of being overpowered by greed and desire.
