Dhṛtarāṣṭra–Saṃjaya Dialogue: Duryodhana’s Entry into the Lake

āsasāda raṇe yāntaṁ sahadevo ’tha saubalam |

Educational Q&A

The verse highlights kṣatriya-dharma in its stark form: when injustice and harm have been done, a warrior may be bound to confront the wrongdoer in open battle. Ethical weight falls on resolve, accountability, and facing consequences rather than evasion.

Sañjaya reports that Sahadeva advances and attacks Śakuni (Subala’s son) as Śakuni moves forward on the battlefield with cavalry protection, setting up a direct confrontation between Sahadeva and the architect of many earlier deceptions.
