Chapter 23: Śakuni Reports, Kaurava Advance, and Arjuna’s Penetration of the Host
ततो<भ्यधावंस्त्वरिता: पाण्डवा जयगृद्धिनः । पदातयश्न नागाश्न सादिनश्लोद्यतायुधा:
tato 'bhyadhāvaṁs tvaritāḥ pāṇḍavā jayagṛddhinaḥ | padātayaś ca nāgāś ca sādinaś codyatāyudhāḥ ||
于是,般度五子行动迅疾、渴求胜利,齐齐冲上前去。步兵、象兵与骑兵——尽皆高举兵刃——并进而上,以协同之势猛压敌阵;战场之责与求胜之心,驱使他们掀起这股急迫的攻潮。
संजय उवाच
The verse highlights the kṣatriya battlefield ethic: decisive, unified action in pursuit of a just objective as understood by the warriors—victory sought through readiness, courage, and coordinated effort across all divisions of the army.
Sañjaya reports that the Pāṇḍavas suddenly charge forward. Infantry, elephant corps, and cavalry advance with raised weapons, indicating a full-force assault rather than a limited skirmish.
