Duryodhana’s Final Condition, Lamentation, and the Night’s Report
गत्वा चैनमपश्यन्त किज्चित्प्राणं जनाधिपम् । ततो रथेभ्य: प्रस्कन्द्य परिवद्रुस्तवात्मजम्,वहाँ जाकर उन्होंने राजा दुर्योधनको देखा, उसकी कुछ-कुछ साँस चल रही थी। फिर वे रथोंसे कूद पड़े और आपके पुत्रके पास जा उसे सब ओरसे घेरकर बैठ गये
gatvā cainam apaśyanta kiñcit-prāṇaṁ janādhipam | tato rathebhyaḥ praskandya parivadruḥ tava ātmajam ||
他们到了那里,看见人中之主(都利约陀那王)尚存一缕微息。于是三人从战车上跃下,急趋至你的儿子身旁,四面环坐,将他围拢在中间,守着他卧地而息。
संजय उवाच
The verse highlights the fragility of power and life in war’s aftermath: even a 'lord of men' lies barely breathing, while companions respond with urgent loyalty—inviting reflection on the ethical cost of conflict and the impermanence of worldly sovereignty.
Sanjaya reports that the surviving warriors reach the fallen king Duryodhana and find him still faintly alive. They jump down from their chariots, rush to him, and gather around him from all sides, forming a protective circle as he lies wounded.
