A person known for virtue and restraint should not be associated with censurable action; moral reputation is portrayed as purity easily marred, like a white cloth stained red.
Kṛpa addresses another warrior with admonitory respect, expressing disbelief that such a person could engage in a reprehensible deed, using the vivid simile of a red stain on white cloth.
