毗湿摩波耶那说:“大天若欢喜,甚至能赐予不死。山主吉利沙亦能赐下如此威力,使人凭此甚至可以击倒因陀罗。”
वैशम्पायन उवाच
The verse emphasizes the extraordinary scope of Śiva’s grace: when the deity is pleased, he can grant the highest gifts—immortality and overwhelming power. Ethically, it implies that divine boons magnify the recipient’s capacity, so one’s intention and restraint become crucial; power gained through favor can be used for protection or for ruin.
Vaiśampāyana underscores Śiva’s ability to bestow irresistible might, setting the tone for events in the Sauptika Parva where divine favor and supernatural power influence the course of violent night-time actions and their consequences.
