Varuṇa’s Divine Assembly
Nārada’s Description
palvalāni taḍāgāni dehavānty atha bhārata | diśas tathā mahī caiva tathā sarve mahīdharāḥ ||
The verse frames nature—waters, living beings, directions, earth, and mountains—as components of an ordered cosmos, implying that human conduct (especially royal conduct) should align with and preserve this larger order (dharma).
Nārada is listing elements of the world in a descriptive sequence while addressing Yudhiṣṭhira (“Bhārata”), setting a broader context for counsel by situating human affairs within the structure of the created order.
