Duryodhana’s Description of Tribute at the Rājasūya
sā mām abhyanujānīhi mātulādya suduḥkhitam | amarṣaṁ ca samāviṣṭaṁ dhṛtarāṣṭre nivedaya ||
The verse highlights how envy and wounded pride (amarṣa) can seize a person’s mind, distorting judgment and pushing one toward rash, self-destructive impulses; ethically, it warns that unchecked resentment becomes a driver of adharma and conflict.
In the aftermath of events in the royal assembly, Duryodhana, burning with humiliation and jealousy, turns to his maternal uncle (Śakuni) asking for permission to withdraw, and requests that his distressed condition be conveyed to King Dhṛtarāṣṭra.
