Yudhiṣṭhira’s Consultation and Bhīṣma’s Counsel in the Assembly
dṛṣṭo yudhiṣṭhiro rājā dṛṣṭo bhīṣmaś ca yādṛśaḥ | vāsudevo 'py ayaṃ dṛṣṭaḥ sarvam etad yathātatham ||
The verse highlights how “seeing” can be framed as moral judgment: Śiśupāla claims he has discerned the true nature of Yudhiṣṭhira, Bhīṣma, and Kṛṣṇa, but the context is polemical—his certainty becomes a vehicle for arrogance and insult, showing how pride can masquerade as insight.
In the royal assembly (sabhā), Śiśupāla speaks after observing the leading figures present. He declares that he has now ‘seen’ them as they really are—Yudhiṣṭhira, Bhīṣma, and Vāsudeva—setting up his forthcoming criticism and confrontation in the Rājasūya-related proceedings.
