प्रतिश्रुत्याकुर्वतो वै गतिर्या कष्टा याता तामहं राजसिंह । भारत! छ: हजार राजकुमार स्वर्गलोकमें जानेके लिये युद्धके सागरमें मग्न हो गये हैं। राजन! राजसिंह! यदि आज मैं बन्धुओंसहित युद्धमें तत्पर हुए कर्णको हठपूर्वक न मार डालूँ तो प्रतिज्ञा करके उसका पालन न करनेवालेको जो दुःखदायी गति प्राप्त होती है, उसीको मैं भी पाऊँगा ।। आमन्त्रये त्वां ब्रूहि जयं रणे मे पुरा भीम॑ धार्तराष्ट्रा ग्रसन्‍्ते,मैं आपसे आज्ञा चाहता हूँ। आप रणभूमिमें मेरी विजयका आशीर्वाद दीजिये। नरेन्द्रसिंह! धृतराष्ट्रके पुत्र भीमसेनको ग्रस लेनेकी चेष्टा कर रहे हैं। मैं इसके पहले ही सूतपुत्र कर्णको, उसकी सेनाको तथा सम्पूर्ण शत्रुओंकी मार डालूँगा

arjuna uvāca | pratiśrutyākurvato vai gatir yā kaṣṭā yātā tām ahaṃ rājasiṃha | bhārata! ṣaṭ-sahasra rāja-kumāraḥ svarga-lokaṃ gantum yuddha-sāgare magna-bhūtāḥ | rājan! rājasiṃha! yadi adya ahaṃ bandhūbhiḥ saha yuddhe tatparaṃ karṇaṃ haṭha-pūrvakaṃ na mārayeyam, tarhi pratijñāṃ kṛtvā tām apālayan yaḥ duḥkha-dāyīṃ gatiṃ prāpnoti, tām eva aham api prāpnuyām || āmantraye tvāṃ brūhi jayaṃ raṇe me | purā bhīmaṃ dhārtarāṣṭrā grasantaḥ | aham etat pūrvam eva sūta-putraṃ karṇaṃ tasya senāṃ ca samastān śatrūṃś ca nihaniṣyāmi ||

阿周那说道:“噢,王中之狮!违背誓言者所遭之厄运极其惨痛;我不愿落入那般毁灭。噢,婆罗多啊,六千王子为求天界,已沉没于战争之海。噢,大王,噢,诸王之狮!若我今日不以坚决之志击杀与其亲族同列、备战而立的迦尔那,我也将遭受立誓而不守者所受的痛苦结局。因此我请求你的许可:请赐我此战必胜的祝福。持国之子正欲吞没毗摩塞那;在那发生之前,我将先诛迦尔那、灭其军旅,并扫尽诸敌。”
