Hearing of Karṇa’s Fall and Dhṛtarāṣṭra’s Lament

ahitāny eva cīrṇāni teṣāṃ tat phalam āgatam, rājan! āpane rājyakī kāmanā rakhanevāle apane putroṃ ke hitakī icchā rakhate hue sadā un pāṇḍavoṃ ke ahit hī kiye haiṃ; āpake unhīṃ karmoṃ kā yaha phala prāpta huā hai.

Educational Q&A

Actions motivated by partiality and the pursuit of power, especially when they harm the righteous, inevitably yield corresponding consequences; the present suffering is portrayed as karmic fruition (phala) of sustained wrongdoing (ahita).

Sanjaya addresses King Dhritarashtra, attributing the current calamity in the war to the long-standing hostility shown toward the Pandavas; he frames the unfolding events as the direct result of earlier harmful choices made in favor of Dhritarashtra’s sons.
