The verse highlights the ethical strain of war: martial prowess and determination can harden into cruelty, and the desire to win may eclipse restraint. It invites reflection on how kṣatriya valor, when driven by wrath and rivalry, intensifies adharma-like outcomes even within a dharma-framed battlefield.
Sañjaya reports a warrior’s vow to kill Arjuna (Dhanañjaya) in the ongoing Kurukṣetra battle, describing Arjuna’s fearsome qualities and enemy-enduring strength, while signaling the rising stakes and imminent use of powerful weapons.
