कर्णेन युधिष्ठिरानीकविदारणम् / Karṇa’s Breach of Yudhiṣṭhira’s Battle-Line
त्वं हि सर्वगुणैर्युक्तो दैवतेभ्योडघिक: प्रभो | “पितामह! कवच, शस्त्र और धनुषकी सफलता भी सारथिपर ही निर्भर है। हमलोग आपके सिवा दूसरे किसीको वहाँ सारथि होनेके योग्य नहीं देखते हैं। प्रभो! क्योंकि आप सभी देवताओंसे श्रेष्ठ और सर्वगुणसम्पन्न हैं
tvaṃ hi sarvaguṇair yukto daivatebhyo 'dhikaḥ prabho |
杜尤陀那说道:“大主啊,你具足一切德能,甚至超越诸天。确实,甲胄、兵刃与弓的威力也系于御者;而在那处,我们看不见除你之外还有谁堪当御者。”
दुर्योधन उवाच
The verse underscores that martial power is not only in weapons but in the competence guiding them—especially the charioteer’s role in positioning, timing, and control. Ethically, it also shows how praise can be used to secure support and authority in war.
Duryodhana addresses Bhīṣma as ‘Pītāmaha,’ exalting him as surpassing even the gods and urging that no one else is fit to serve as charioteer. He argues that the success of armor, weapons, and bow depends on the charioteer, thereby pressing Bhīṣma’s indispensability.
