Karṇa’s Battle Formation and the Pāṇḍava Counter-Plan
Adhyāya 31
athavāpy eka evāhaṁ yotsyāmi kurunandana | paśya vīrya mamādya tvaṁ saṅgrāme dahato ripūn ||
The verse highlights the kṣatriya ideal of steadfast courage and responsibility in crisis: a leader publicly commits to action, aiming to strengthen morale and resolve, even when the ethical weight of violence is present.
Śalya addresses a Kuru prince and proclaims that he will fight alone if necessary, inviting him to watch as he devastates the enemy in battle—an emphatic pledge of martial support during the Karṇa Parva war sequence.
