अध्याय २९: कर्णस्य शल्यं प्रति शापस्मरणं च युद्धनिश्चयः | Chapter 29: Karṇa recalls curses to Śalya and declares resolve for battle
मुसलानीव सम्पेतु: परिघा इव चेषव: । शतघ्न्य इव चाप्यन्ये वज्ाण्युग्राणि चापरे
musalānīva sampetuḥ parighā iva ceṣavaḥ | śataghnya iva cāpyanye vajrāṇyugrāṇi cāpare ||
三阇耶说道:箭矢纷飞相击,坠落如沉重巨杵;有的砸下如铁杠,有的如带刺的投射器械,有的又如凶猛霹雳般落在敌军之上。
संजय उवाच
The verse is primarily descriptive rather than doctrinal: it underscores the terrifying escalation of violence in war, reminding the listener that martial prowess can magnify destruction—an implicit ethical prompt to recognize war’s cost even when framed as kṣatriya duty.
Sañjaya reports the battle scene: volleys of arrows strike with the force of different heavy weapons—clubs, iron bars, śataghnīs, and thunderbolts—conveying the intensity and lethality of the ongoing combat.
