Pāṇḍya-vadha-anantaram Arjunasya Pravṛttiḥ

Arjuna’s Response and the Renewed Battle

tair āhatau sarva-manuṣya-mukhyau vasṛk-sravantau dhanadendra-kalpau | samāpta-vidyena tathābhibhūtau hatau raṇe tāv iti menire ’nye ||

Educational Q&A

The verse highlights how battlefield perception can distort truth: even great heroes may appear defeated, and observers quickly conclude death from visible signs like bleeding. It cautions against hasty judgments and underscores the fog of war, where appearances can mislead.

Sañjaya reports that Kṛṣṇa and Arjuna are struck by arrows and bleed. Because Aśvatthāmā’s weapon-skill is described as fully mastered, the onlookers infer that the two have been killed in the fight, though this is presented as others’ assumption.
