यत्नमाना: प्रयत्नेन द्रोणानीकविशातने । न शेकुः सृञ्जया युद्धे तद्धि द्रोणेन पालितम्
yatnamānāḥ prayatnena droṇānīka-viśātane | na śekuḥ sṛñjayā yuddhe taddhi droṇena pālitam | āptair āśu parijñātaṃ bhāradvāja-cikīrṣitam |
桑阇耶说道:“斯林阇耶诸将竭尽全力,欲摧破德罗纳的战阵,却在此战中不能得逞,因为那支军队被德罗纳严密护持。与此同时,通过可信的密探,婆罗堕阇之子(德罗纳)所欲成之事也迅速被探明。”
संजय उवाच
Even great valor and effort can fail against a well-protected and well-led formation; therefore discernment, planning, and timely intelligence are ethically significant supports to action in war, not merely brute force.
Sañjaya reports that the Sṛñjayas tried hard to destroy Droṇa’s battle-array but could not, because Droṇa guarded it effectively; at the same time, Droṇa’s intended objective was quickly learned through trusted informants.
