Chapter 89: Bhīma dispatched to protect Ghaṭotkaca amid escalating engagements
तदनन्तर अर्जुन राजा दुर्योधनके पीछे चलनेवाले सुशर्मा आदिको सेनामें पराजित करके अपने शिविरको चले गये ।। युधिष्ठिरो5पि कौरव्यो भ्रातृभ्यां सहितस्तथा । ययौ स्वशिबिरं राजा निशायां सेनया वृत:,तथा सेनासे घिरे हुए कुरुकुलनन्दन राजा युधिष्ठिर भी दोनों भाई नकुल-सहदेवके साथ रातमें अपने शिविरमें पधारे
tadanantaraṁ arjunaḥ rājā duryodhanake pīche calanevāle suśarmā-ādiko senāmeṁ parājita karke apane śibirako cale gaye || yudhiṣṭhiro 'pi kauravyo bhrātṛbhyāṁ sahitas tathā | yayau svaśibiraṁ rājā niśāyāṁ senayā vṛtaḥ || tathā senā se ghire hue kurukula-nandana rājā yudhiṣṭhira bhī donoṁ bhāī nakula-sahadevake sātha rātameṁ apane śibirmeṁ padhāre ||
三阇耶说道:其后,阿周那王在军中击溃了追随都利约陀那的苏舍尔摩等人,便回到自己的营地。俱卢王子——坚战(郁提施提罗)亦然:他与两位弟弟那俱罗、娑诃提婆同行,四周又有军队护卫,夜里返回本营。
संजय उवाच
The verse highlights measured conduct in warfare: after fulfilling the immediate martial duty (repelling pursuers and securing safety), the heroes withdraw to camp rather than being driven by vengeance. It reflects restraint, order, and responsibility—key aspects of kṣatriya-dharma.
After the engagement, Arjuna defeats Susharma and other fighters trailing Duryodhana, then returns to his camp. Yudhiṣṭhira, escorted by his forces and accompanied by Nakula and Sahadeva, also reaches his camp during the night.
