भीष्मस्य मण्डलव्यूहः — Bhīṣma’s Maṇḍala Battle-Formation and the Opening Engagements
स कृत्वा दारुणं कर्म प्रगृहीतशरासन: । आससाद ततो वीरो भूरिश्रवसमाहवे,यह भयंकर कर्म करके फिर धनुष लिये वीर सात्यकिने युद्धस्थलमें भूरिश्रवापर आक्रमण किया
sa kṛtvā dāruṇaṃ karma pragṛhītaśarāsanaḥ | āsasāda tato vīro bhūriśravasam āhave ||
他既行下那惨烈之举,便执弓在手,勇士萨提亚奇随即在战场上逼近,向布胡里施罗婆娑发起冲击。
संजय उवाच
The verse highlights the ethical tension of warfare: a warrior may perform an act described as ‘dāruṇa’ (grim/terrible) and yet immediately continue the battle. It invites reflection on how dharma becomes difficult to discern in chaotic conflict, where strategic necessity and moral accountability collide.
Sañjaya reports that after performing a fearsome act, the warrior—holding his bow—moves forward on the battlefield and attacks Bhūriśravas, intensifying the duel and the surrounding combat.
