Educational Q&A

The verse teaches śaraṇāgati (taking refuge): recognizing the supreme Lord as the universe’s maker, ruler, and indwelling reality, one turns from self-reliance to surrender grounded in Yoga—inner discipline and God-centered realization.

Bhishma, speaking in the Bhishma Parva context of the Kurukshetra war, offers a hymn-like address to Vasudeva (Krishna), stringing together cosmic epithets and concluding with a direct act of refuge: “I approach you, O Lord.”
