भीष्मस्य भीमसेन-निरोधः
Bhīṣma checks Bhīmasena; matched engagements intensify
तत् ते5हं कथयिष्यामि यथाश्रुतमरिंदम । भरतश्रेष्ठी आप पाण्डवोंकी विजय और अपनी पराजयका जो कारण पूछते हैं, उसके विषयमें यथार्थ बातें सुनिये। शत्रुदमन! मैंने जैसा सुन रखा है, वह आपको बताऊँगा ।। २७ - दुर्योधनेन सम्पृष्ट एतमर्थ पितामह:,दुर्योधनने यही बात पितामह भीष्मसे पूछी थी। महाराज! युद्धमें अपने समस्त महारथी भाइयोंको पराजित हुआ देख आपके पुत्र कुरुराज दुर्योधनका हृदय शोकसे मोहित हो गया। उसने रातमें महाज्ञानी पितामह भीष्मके पास विनयपूर्वक जाकर जो कुछ पूछा था, वह बताता हूँ, मुझसे सुनिये
tatte 'haṃ kathayiṣyāmi yathāśrutam ariṃdama | bharataśreṣṭha yāṃ pṛcchasi pāṇḍavānāṃ jayaṃ ca tava parājayasya ca kāraṇam | yathāśrutam eva te vakṣyāmi || duryodhanena sampṛṣṭa etam arthaṃ pitāmahaḥ |
三阇耶说道：“噢，制敌者，我将依我所闻，如实告知于你。婆罗多族中最卓越者啊，请听你所问之事的真实缘由——般度五子的胜利，以及你的败北。我将按所传闻者一一叙述。此事正是难敌曾向祖父毗湿摩请问的：当他在战场上看见自己所有最强的战将与诸位兄弟相继被挫败时，俱卢王之子难敌为悲痛所迷。夜里，他谦恭地趋近大智的祖父毗湿摩而发问；我如今要复述的，正是那番问答——听我道来。”
