यज्ञदानतप:कर्म न त्याज्यं कार्यमेव तत् । यज्ञो दानं तपश्चैव पावनानि मनीषिणाम्",यज्ञ, दान और तपरूप कर्म त्याग करनेके योग्य नहीं है, बल्कि वह तो अवश्य कर्तव्य है;* क्योंकि यज्ञ, दान और तप--ये तीनों ही कर्म बुद्धिमान् पुरुषोंको पवित्र करनेवाले हैं
yajñadānatapaḥkarma na tyājyaṁ kāryam eva tat | yajño dānaṁ tapaś caiva pāvanāni manīṣiṇām ||
祭祀、布施与苦行之业不应舍弃,反而必须实行;因为祭祀、布施与苦行——这三者——能净化智者。
अजुन उवाच
Even when discussing renunciation, one should not give up purifying duties—sacrifice (yajña), charity (dāna), and austerity (tapas). These actions cleanse the mind and character of the wise and support righteous living.
In the midst of the larger war-context of the Bhīṣma Parva, the discourse turns to ethical discipline: Arjuna states that certain foundational religious-ethical practices should remain obligatory rather than being abandoned in the name of renunciation.
