Discipline of Meditation and Mental Restraint

Educational Q&A

Act without inner dependence on results: be content with unasked gains, transcend emotional opposites, abandon envy, and remain steady in success and failure. Such action, performed without grasping, does not create binding karma.

On the battlefield, Arjuna is being instructed about the discipline of action. The verse characterizes the ideal karma-yogin whose inner poise allows righteous action in war and duty without being psychologically or karmically trapped by outcomes.
