The verse functions as a phalaśruti: it affirms that attentive hearing of the Bhīṣma Parva is auspicious and purifying, emphasizing the ethical value of śravaṇa (reverent listening) and the transformative power of dharmic narrative.
At the close of Bhīṣma Parva, the narrator Vaiśampāyana addresses King Janamejaya, stating that he has finished recounting the Parva—composed of many episodes—and characterizes it as sin-destroying and auspicious.
