यथा दैत्यचमूं शक्रस्तापयामास संयुगे | तथा भीष्म: पाण्डवेयांस्तापयामास भारत,भारत! जैसे पूर्वकालमें देवराज इन्द्रने संग्रामभूमिमें दैत्योंकी सेनाको संतप्त किया था, उसी प्रकार भीष्मजी पाण्डवयोद्धाओंको संताप दे रहे थे
sañjaya uvāca | yathā daityacamūṃ śakrastāpayāmāsa saṃyuge | tathā bhīṣmaḥ pāṇḍaveyāṃstāpayāmāsa bhārata ||
三阇耶说道：“婆罗多啊！正如昔日战场上释迦（因陀罗）灼烧达那婆军阵一般，如今毗湿摩也在灼烧般度勇士。”此颂将毗湿摩的攻势比作可与神力比肩之威，愈发抬高战争的道德张力：武勇与义务在惨重的人间代价之中运作。
