Educational Q&A

The verse highlights an ideal of social and political stability: communities flourish when warrior-rulers are courageous and anchored in dharma and artha, and when economic life is responsibly sustained through proper livelihood. Ethical resolve (dṛḍha-niścaya) and righteous intent (dharmātmā) are presented as the foundation of prosperity and security.

Sañjaya is describing particular regions and the character of their inhabitants to King Dhṛtarāṣṭra—praising the valor, righteousness, and prosperity of the people (especially Kṣatriyas and those living by Vaiśya occupations). It functions as a geographic-ethnographic notice within the broader war narrative of Bhīṣma Parva.
