Bhīmasena’s Engagement with Multiple Mahārathas
(भीष्मो5तीव सुसंक्रुद्ध: पृषत्कैरर्जुनं बलात् । जघान समरे मुर्ध्नि सिंहवद् विनदन् मुहुः ।।
sañjaya uvāca | bhīṣmo 'tīva susaṃkruddhaḥ pṛṣatkair arjunaṃ balāt jaghāna samare mūrdhni siṃhavad vinadan muhuḥ ||
三阇耶说道:毗湿摩盛怒至极,在战斗中以箭强力击中阿周那的头部。随后他又一次次如狮子般咆哮。婆苏提婆(奎师那)见帕尔塔(阿周那)出手过于温软——对尊长毗湿摩心存怜让——而毗湿摩却立于军阵中央,不息倾洒箭雨,炽烈如正午烈日,屠戮般度婆军中最精锐的勇士,使由提施提罗的军中呈现出末劫般的景象。
संजय उवाच
The verse highlights how, in a dharma-yuddha setting, personal affection and reverence—though virtuous in ordinary life—can become a dangerous softness if they obstruct one’s rightful duty. Bhīṣma’s unwavering martial resolve contrasts with Arjuna’s hesitation, pressing the ethical point that duty must be performed with steadiness when the situation demands it.
Sañjaya reports that Bhīṣma, fighting fiercely, showers Arjuna with arrows and even strikes his head. After landing these blows, Bhīṣma repeatedly roars like a lion, signaling dominance and intensifying the terror and momentum of the battle.
