Adhyāya 108 — Nimitta-darśana and Drona’s counsel amid Arjuna’s advance (निमित्तदर्शनं द्रोणोपदेशश्च)
खुराहता धरा राजंश्वकम्पे च ननाद च,राजन! उन घोड़ोंकी टापसे आहत होकर यह पृथ्वी काँपने और भयंकर शब्द करने लगी
khurāhatā dharā rājan śvakampe ca nanāda ca
三阇耶说道:大王啊,马蹄如锤击地,震撼大地;大地亦随之颤动,发出可怖的轰鸣——这是浩大战力已然发动的凶兆。
संजय उवाच
The verse underscores the immense momentum and consequence of war: when martial power is unleashed, even nature seems to respond. It implicitly warns that violence on a grand scale is not a private act but a world-shaking event with moral and cosmic weight.
Sañjaya describes the battlefield scene to Dhṛtarāṣṭra: the horses’ hooves pound the ground so forcefully that the earth appears to quake and emit a terrifying sound, heightening the sense of impending, large-scale combat.
