Dakṣiṇā-vibhāga and Avabhṛtha
Completion of the Aśvamedha
sanātanasya dharmasya mūlam etat sanātanam | śrūyante hi purā vṛttā viśvāmitrādayo nṛpāḥ ||
The verse asserts that Dharma has an eternal, unchanging foundation (mūla), and that adherence to this perennial basis is what leads to true spiritual accomplishment, as exemplified by revered figures of the past.
Vaiśampāyana, continuing his narration, points to ancient precedent: earlier rulers—named beginning with Viśvāmitra—are said to have achieved success by grounding their lives and rule in the timeless root-principles of Dharma.
