Adhyāya 90: Babhruvāhana’s Reception and the Commencement of Yudhiṣṭhira’s Aśvamedha
शुचय: सक्तवश्चेमे नियमोपार्जिता: प्रभो । प्रतिगृह्लीष्व भद्रं ते मया दत्ता द्विजर्षभ
śucayaḥ saktavaś ceme niyamopārjitāḥ prabho | pratigṛhṇīṣva bhadraṃ te mayā dattā dvijarṣabha ||
那俱罗说道:“大人啊,这些是清净的萨克图——烘炒大麦粉——乃我依戒行与克己之规,正当所得。请您收受;愿吉祥归于您,婆罗门中之最胜者,因为这是我亲手奉献的。”
नकुल उवाच
The verse highlights dharma in giving: an offering is ethically elevated when it is pure and honestly acquired through self-discipline (niyama), and when it is given with humility and goodwill toward the recipient.
Nakula respectfully presents simple provisions—pure saktu—stressing that they were obtained through disciplined, rightful means, and asks the honored Brahmin to accept the gift as an act of proper hospitality.
