Karma’s Non-Extinction, Jīva’s Entry into the Embryo, and Instruction on Conduct-Dharma

brāhmaṇa uvāca | janma-mṛtyu-vyādhibhir āvṛto yaḥ puruṣaḥ pradhāna-tattvaṁ (prakṛtiṁ) jānāti ca sarveṣu cetaneṣu prāṇiṣu caitanyaṁ samāna-rūpeṇa vyāptaṁ paśyati, sa pūrṇa-parama-padasyānusandhāne saṁlagno jagad-bhogebhyo viraktaḥ bhavati | sādhu-śiromaṇe! tasya vairāgya-vataḥ puruṣasya yat hitakaram upadeśaḥ, taṁ yathārthataḥ varṇayiṣyāmi || śāśvatasya avyayasya atha yad asya jñānam uttamam | procyamānaṁ mayā vipra nibodha idam aśeṣataḥ ||

Educational Q&A

Seeing the same consciousness equally present in all beings, and understanding Prakriti as the primal principle, leads a person—aware of the suffering of birth, death, and disease—to detach from worldly pleasures and pursue the supreme state through the highest knowledge of the eternal, imperishable Self.

A Brahmin speaker addresses a virtuous listener (called ‘vipra’), describing the marks of a seeker who becomes dispassionate, and then announces that he will teach, in full, the highest knowledge concerning the eternal and imperishable Supreme Self.
