Arjuna’s request to Krishna and the opening of the Kāśyapa–Brāhmaṇa mokṣa discourse (Āśvamedhika-parva 16)
अस्माभ्नि: परिपृष्टश्ष यदाह भरतर्षभ । दिव्येन विधिना पार्थ तच्छुणुष्वाविचारयन्
vāyudeva uvāca | asmābhiḥ paripṛṣṭaś ca yad āha bharatarṣabha | divyena vidhinā pārtha tac chṛṇuṣvāvicārayan śatrudamana | ekadinasya vṛttānto 'yam | durdharṣo brāhmaṇo brahmalokād avataran svargalokam atikramya mama gṛham āgataḥ | mayā tasya vidhivat pūjā kṛtā mokṣadharme ca praśnaḥ kṛtaḥ | bharataśreṣṭha mama praśnasya sa sundareṇa vidhinā pratyuvāca | pārtha tad eva te 'haṃ vakṣyāmi | anyathā na vicārya dhyānena śṛṇu ||
风神伐由天说道:“婆罗多族之雄牛啊!人们问我什么、我又如何作答,我今当复述。帕尔塔啊,降伏仇敌者啊,当不动摇而谛听。曾有一位难可抗拒的婆罗门自梵天界下降;经由天界而至我所居之处。我依圣规礼敬供养,并请问能导向解脱之法。婆罗多族中最胜者啊,他以优美而如法的方式回答了我的询问。帕尔塔啊,我如今就将那同一教诲告知于你。切莫作他解——当专心谛听。”
वायुदेव उवाच
The verse frames an ethical method of receiving spiritual instruction: honor the worthy guest/teacher according to proper rites, inquire into mokṣa-dharma, and then listen with steady attention without distorting the teaching through contrary interpretations.
Vāyudeva tells Arjuna that a powerful brāhmaṇa once descended from Brahmaloka, visited him after passing through heaven, received due hospitality, and answered Vāyu’s questions about liberation; Vāyu now transmits that same answer to Arjuna and urges focused listening.
