Dhṛtarāṣṭra’s Counsel on Royal Policy to Yudhiṣṭhira

tair iyaṃ puruṣavyāghrair vidyā-bāhu-bala-anvitaiḥ

Educational Q&A

True excellence is not mere force: the verse praises men who combine learning (vidyā) with strength and prowess (bāhu-bala), implying that power guided by understanding is fit to serve dharma.

Vaiśampāyana describes an action or undertaking (iyam) being accomplished through the agency of outstanding heroes, characterized as ‘tigers among men’ and noted for both knowledge and strength.
