The verse highlights truthful self-disclosure and the ethical weight of lineage and responsibility: Devayānī establishes her identity plainly, invoking her father Śukra’s authority, which frames how others should treat her and how she should act.
Devayānī introduces herself to a king, asking him to accept her statement and informing him that she is the daughter of Śukra, the famed preceptor of the Asuras—an identification that sets the stakes for the ensuing events.
