तदिदं द्रौपदीहेतोरन्योन्यस्य प्रवासनम्,अतः आपके बड़े भाईने वहाँ धर्मकी रक्षाके लिये केवल द्रौपदीको निमित्त बनाकर यह एक-दूसरेके प्रवासका नियम बनाया है। यहाँ आपका धर्म दूषित नहीं होता। विशाल नेत्रोंवाले अर्जुन! आपको आर्त प्राणियोंकी रक्षा करनी चाहिये
tad idaṃ draupadī-hetor anyonyasya pravāsanam | ataḥ āpake baṛe bhrātāne tatra dharmasya rakṣāyai kevalaṃ draupadīṃ nimittaṃ kṛtvā idaṃ paraspara-pravāsa-niyamaṃ kṛtaḥ | atra tava dharmo dūṣito na bhavati | viśāla-netra arjuna! tvayā ārta-prāṇināṃ rakṣā kartavyā |
这条彼此放逐的规约,是因德劳帕迪而立。因此,你的长兄为护持法(dharma),仅以德劳帕迪为托辞,制定了这互相流放的条例。在此事上,你的法并不受玷污。噢,大眼的阿周那,你当护佑受难的众生。
अजुन उवाच
A rule or vow should be interpreted in a way that preserves dharma: protecting the distressed is a higher ethical imperative, and a regulation made for order (here, linked to Draupadī) should not be allowed to obstruct compassionate protection.
Arjuna argues that the mutual-exile rule among the brothers—framed with Draupadī as the occasion—was created by the eldest brother to uphold dharma, and that acting to protect suffering beings does not violate or stain one’s righteousness under this rule.
