Wise counsel should culminate in concrete ethical commitments. The Pāṇḍavas respond to Nārada’s instruction by establishing a formal rule (samaya), emphasizing restraint, mutual respect, and dharma as safeguards against discord.
After Nārada addresses the Pāṇḍavas, they collectively create an agreement in his presence. The verse functions as a transition: it records the brothers’ acceptance of guidance and their decision to bind themselves to a mutually observed regulation.
