हितोपदेशश्न पथि धर्मराजस्य धीमत: । विदुरेण कृतो यत्र हितार्थ म्लेच्छभाषया,लाक्षागृहदाहपर्वमें पाण्डवोंकी वारणावत-यात्राके प्रसंगमें दुर्योधनके गुप्त षड़्यन्त्रका वर्णन है। उसका पाण्डवोंके पास कूटनीतिज्ञ पुरोचनको भेजनेका भी प्रसंग है। मार्गमें विदुरजीने बुद्धिमान्‌ युधिष्ठिरके हितके लिये म्लेच्छभाषामें जो हितोपदेश किया, उसका भी वर्णन है

hitopadeśaś ca pathi dharmarājasya dhīmataḥ | vidureṇa kṛto yatra hitārthaṃ mlecchabhāṣayā |

Translation

在旅途中，毗度罗为谋求睿智的法王（坚战，Yudhiṣṭhira）之安泰，以一种被称为“弥勒叉（mleccha）”的暗语方式，献上有益的劝诫。此事发生在“漆屋（蜡宫）”一段的背景之中：都利约陀那在瓦拉那瓦塔暗中发动阴谋，并派遣狡诈的走卒普罗阇那（Purocana）前往行事；毗度罗含蓄而遮掩的忠告，既是合乎法（dharma）的警示，也是切实可行的防范，旨在护佑般度五子免遭背叛。
