Ādi-parva, Adhyāya 187: Drupada’s Inquiry and the Dharma Debate on Draupadī’s Marriage

As a chapter-colophon, it does not teach through a direct maxim, but it highlights an ethical pattern: when honor, rivalry, and changing circumstances dominate, even powerful kings may withdraw collectively—showing how pride and competitive politics can override perseverance and purpose.
This is the formal closing statement for the chapter: it announces that the 186th chapter of the Svayaṃvara section within the Ādi Parva has ended, and that its subject concerned the assembled kings becoming disinclined/turning away.
