अतो रात्रौ प्राप्तुवन्तो जल॑ ब्रह्मविदो जना: । गर्हयन्ति नरान् सर्वान् बलस्थान् नृपतीनपि,“इसीलिये वेदवेत्ता पुरुष रातके समय जलनमें प्रवेश करनेवाले सम्पूर्ण मनुष्यों और बलवान् राजाओंकी भी निन्दा करते हैं
ato rātrau prāptuvanto jalaṁ brahmavido janāḥ | garhayanti narān sarvān balasthān nṛpatīn api ||
因此,通晓吠陀之人谴责一切夜间入水者——纵是强盛之王亦不例外——以为此举有违达摩与应守之戒律,实属可责。
वैशम्पायन उवाच
The verse underscores that dharma is not suspended by status or power: even kings are subject to norms upheld by Veda-knowers. Night-time entry into water is presented as improper conduct, hence censured.
Vaiśaṃpāyana reports a normative judgment: Veda-knowing authorities criticize those who go into water at night, extending the censure universally—from ordinary people to powerful rulers.
