वैशम्पायन उवाच
The verse foregrounds the dynastic and social duty of ensuring progeny: companionship and enjoyment are framed as conditional upon the higher obligation of continuing the lineage, reflecting the epic’s emphasis on responsibility within marriage and kingship.
The speaker (as reported by Vaiśaṃpāyana) conveys a promise to stay and accompany the addressed woman only until she bears a son, indicating a time-bound commitment tied to the goal of producing an heir.
