Kuntī and the Brahmin: Inquiry into the Root of Suffering
vaiśampāyana uvāca | purocane tathā hṛṣṭe kaunteyo 'tha yudhiṣṭhiraḥ | bhīmasenārjunau cobhau yamau provāca dharmavit ||
Dharma here includes alertness and responsible leadership: Yudhiṣṭhira, as dharmavit, responds to another’s suspicious joy with measured counsel to his brothers, implying that righteousness must be joined with discernment in hostile political settings.
Purocana becomes pleased after observing the Pāṇḍavas living for a year in apparent trust and comfort. At that moment, Yudhiṣṭhira turns to Bhīma, Arjuna, and the twins to speak—setting up the next action in the lac-house (jātugṛha) plot sequence.
