Bhīma’s Search for Water and the Forest Halt
एवमुकक््त्वा तु कौन्तेयो भ्रातृभि: सहितो5नघ: । अर्धक्रोशे तु नगरादतिष्ठद् बहिरेव स:,यों कहकर पापरहित कुन्तीनन्दन अर्जुन अपने भाइयोंके साथ नगरसे बाहर ही आधे कोसकी दूरीपर ठहर गये थे
evam uktvā tu kaunteyo bhrātṛbhiḥ sahito 'naghaḥ | ardhakrośe tu nagarād atiṣṭhad bahir eva saḥ ||
说罢此言,昆蒂之子阿周那——无瑕无垢者——与诸兄弟一道,并未立刻入城,而是在城外半拘罗舍之处驻足停歇。叙事强调这是一种有意而克制的停顿:他们不贸然逼近城中,反而保持恭敬的距离,显出谨慎、得体与自持的品行。
वैशम्पायन उवाच
The verse highlights disciplined conduct: even after speaking and acting with resolve, one may choose a measured pause and maintain appropriate distance, reflecting self-restraint and propriety (dharma) rather than impulsive entry or confrontation.
Vaiśampāyana narrates that Arjuna, accompanied by his brothers, stops outside the city at a distance of half a krośa, indicating a temporary halt before proceeding further.
