The verse highlights how collective attention shifts instantly when a significant event is expected—an ethical-literary reminder that the mind is quick to move toward what it anticipates, and that public judgment and emotion can turn in a moment.
In the arena, the assembled spectators suddenly form the same expectation and immediately turn to look toward the entrance, indicating that someone or something important is about to arrive or be revealed.
