Adhyaya 79 — Bhakti-Mahima and Linga-Archana-Vidhi

Condensed Ritual Sequence

उच्छिष्टः पूजयन्याति पैशाचं तु द्विजाधमः संक्रुद्धो राक्षसं स्थानं प्राप्नुयान् मूढधीर् द्विजाः

ucchiṣṭaḥ pūjayanyāti paiśācaṃ tu dvijādhamaḥ saṃkruddho rākṣasaṃ sthānaṃ prāpnuyān mūḍhadhīr dvijāḥ

噢,婆罗门们:二次生者中行止最下者,若在 ucciṣṭa(食余不净)之时行供养,便堕入毗舍遮(piśāca)之境;若以迷乱之心、怀嗔而礼拜,则得罗刹(rākṣasa)之位。由此可知,不正之心态与不净,只会使兽魂(paśu)更紧缚于系缚(pāśa),而不能趋向主宰——湿婆(Śiva)。

It warns that Linga-pūjā must be done with śauca (purity) and a शांत (peaceful) mind; worship done in ucchiṣṭa-impurity or anger produces binding karmic results rather than Śiva’s grace.
