tadāha pautraṃ dharmajño vasiṣṭho munibhir vṛtaḥ alam atyantakopena tāta manyumimaṃ jahi
Vasiṣṭha (within Sūta’s narration)
It frames inner restraint—especially abandoning krodha—as a prerequisite for purity in Shiva-bhakti and effective Linga-puja, since anger is a pasha (bond) that disturbs worship and dharma.
Indirectly, it points to Shiva as Pati (the Lord) approached through dharma and self-mastery: the pashu (soul) must loosen pasha (anger and agitation) to become fit for Shiva’s grace.
Krodha-nigraha (restraint of anger) as a core yama aligned with Pashupata discipline—inner tapas that supports mantra, japa, and steady-minded Linga worship.
