Kāraṇa-vyākhyā: Cosmic Agents, Rudra-Forms, Sense-Purity, and Ānanda-Tāratamya
श्रीकृष्ण उवाच / गायत्र्याश्च शतानन्द एकानन्दस्तु वेधसः एतादृशः शतानन्दो ब्रह्मणः परिकीर्तितः
śrīkṛṣṇa uvāca / gāyatryāśca śatānanda ekānandastu vedhasaḥ etādṛśaḥ śatānando brahmaṇaḥ parikīrtitaḥ
Śrī Kṛṣṇa
Concept: Tāratamya (gradation) of ānanda associated with mantra (Gāyatrī) and cosmic offices (Brahmā/Vedhas).
Vedantic Theme: Ānanda-mīmāṃsā style hierarchy pointing beyond conditioned bliss toward the unconditioned Brahmānanda.
Application: Use the teaching as a contemplative scale: refine one’s pursuit from ritual/mantra-born joy toward inquiry into the source of bliss beyond roles and worlds.
Primary Rasa: shanta
Secondary Rasa: adbhuta
Related Themes: Garuda Purana 3.18 (context: ānanda-nirṇaya / gradation of bliss); Garuda Purana 3.19 (continuation: Garuḍa’s clarification questions)
This verse uses “single” and “hundredfold” bliss to express a hierarchy of spiritual joy, showing that mantra-based merit (Gāyatrī) and divine states (Brahmā) can be discussed through comparative measures.
By framing bliss as measurable and hierarchical, the verse supports the broader Purāṇic idea that the jīva experiences different grades of enjoyment or peace according to spiritual practice and attained realms.
Regular, disciplined Gāyatrī-japa and ethical living can be treated as concrete steps toward inner clarity and higher spiritual happiness, rather than seeking only temporary pleasures.
