Lord Vishnu (speaking to Garuda/Vinata-putra)
Concept: Right placement (especially of doors) according to dik-vibhāga yields predictable phala (results).
Vedantic Theme: Ṛta/dharma as order: harmony with cosmic directions supports well-being; karma-phala logic applied to space.
Application: When designing/renovating, divide the plan into eight sectors; assign door locations by the prescribed sectoral mapping to maximize śubha outcomes.
Primary Rasa: shanta
Type: architectural layout (vāstu-puruṣa maṇḍala)
Related Themes: Garuda Purana 1.46 (vāstu/door-phala context); Garuda Purana 1.47 (64-pada plan and directional marking)
This verse frames door placement as yielding specific auspicious or inauspicious outcomes based on an eightfold directional division, indicating that entrances are evaluated by precise sectoral rules.
It does not describe the soul’s journey directly; instead, it teaches dharmic household order (directional discipline), which the Purana treats as supportive of auspicious living and karmic well-being.
If applying traditional vastu, assess entrances by dividing directions into eight sectors and judging door placement by the sector’s prescribed results—especially noting the south-west/north-west adjacency rules stated here.
